Agité et subversif, cet artiste américain porte avec une jubilation féroce ses deux casquettes de pirate médiatique spécialisé dans l’abordage de panneaux publicitaires et de peintre Lowbrow inspiré par la culture pop et l’univers des cartoons. Ses toiles reflètent à la fois la bonne humeur délirante de la figuration libre et la hargne moqueuse des premiers groupes punks. Hollywood film stars, cartoon characters and 70s rock stars... like any self-respecting little brat, Ron English doesn't just toy with things, he smashes them up. Whether he's playing the billboard-highjacking media pirate or the pop culture and cartoon-inspired Lowbrow painter, this activist and subversive American artist wears both hats with fierce jubilant pride. His paintings are a mix of crazy good-humoured 'figuration libre' and the kind of scathing malice which reminds one of the early punk movement.
